George Collins

George Collins rode home one cold winter's night
George Collins rode home so fine
George Collins rode home one cold winter's night
Fallen sick and died
Mary was setting in yonder's town
Sewing her silks so fine
When she heard of George being dead
She lay her silks aside
She followed him up she followed him down
She followed him to his grave
Down on her bended knees she fell
She screamed, she cried, she prayed
Oh daughter oh daughter what makes you weep so
There's more young men than George
Oh mother oh mother George has got my heart
And now he's dead and gone
Set down the coffin push back the lid
Lay down the linens so fine
Oh may I kiss them pale clay lips
I'm sure they'll never kiss mine
Oh don't you see that lonesome dove
Sailing through the pines
She's mourning for the loss of her own true love
Just like I mourn for mine

Had to feed my wife and child die diddle um day
Had to feed my wife and child die diddle um day
Lead me on to Jordan's land die diddle um day
Lead me on to Jordan's land die diddle um day
There's nothing left but copper wire die diddle um day

Cripple
02:28
|
|||
Spring's all muddy and the pond's all dry
Going to heaven when I die
If I live a hundred years I'll be there to wipe your tears
Goin' up cripple creek goin' on a run
Goin' up cripple creek
Sweet the sound of falling rain
The morphine drips to ease my pain
Every one I loved is gone come on boys another round
Goin' up cripple creek goin' on a run
Goin' up cripple creek
Used to dread each heavy step
I walked on past you begged and wept
Drag my mind back to the ground now I got my worries found
Goin' up cripple creek goin' on a run
Goin' up cripple creek

Little birdie, little birdie come sing to me your song
Sing it now that I am with you
I won't be with you long
If I were some little birdie I'd never build my nest on the ground
I'd build my nest in my pretty one's breast
I never never would come down
I'd rather be in some dark holler where the sun don't ever shine
Than to see you with another
When you promised to be mine
Don't you see that lonesome turtle dove flying from pine to pine
She mourning for her own true love
As I do mourn for mine
Little birdie, little birdie come sing to me your song
Sing it now that I am with you
I won't be with you long

The Circle
03:02
|
|||
Jenny put her fanciest dress on
Twilight painted her silver
Makeup polish powder on
Targeting the masses
Crackling in a whitish flame
The queen has come to play this game
Rocketship stay on the ground
Til everyone stops standing round
All the guests whirl fast and gay and proud
Jenny in her silver
Poisoned blood forms black and weighted clouds
Jenny joins the circle
Crackling in a whitish flame
The queen has come to play this game
Rocketship stay on the ground
Til everyone stops standing round
Circle turns ellipse and then falls down
Royalty turns smiling
Poise and grace denounce our troubled race
We know mercury's the colour of silver
Crackling in a whitish flame
The queen has failed to play this game
Rocketship stay on the ground
Til everyone stops standing round
Rocketship stay on the ground
Til everyone stops standing round
Rocketship stay on the ground
Til everyone stops standing round

Bill Banks
02:18
|
|||
Bill Banks was a young man of 25 years
Had a wife and four children to be left a frontier
He was hanged over in Jefferson in the County of Ashe
In the state of North Carolina in the land of his birth
The bell rang at the courthouse was about 9 o'clock
When the people all gathered for to see this sad sight
When the sheriff came walking with Banks by his side
For to hang this poor man who had made many crimes
At the jailhouse that morning was a very sad time
When he kissed his wife and children to be left here behind
She said to him "William I will see you no more
Til we meet in yon heaven where partings no more"
He went on the scaffold bout half after one
He politely addressed them and then he begun
He talked quite awful relating his case
Performing quite much which had passed in his race
The witness were a falsehood I know in my mind
For they swore that I shot him as much as six times
And I only had five cartridges and this I know well
How often I shot him I never can tell
His left arm was around me and his thumb in my eye
Had his gun in his right hand and his bowie was nigh
This treatment so scared me all out of my mind
I shot him and killed him in a moment of time

Love Too Dear
03:44
|
|||
All the loves we love too dearly for this world
Though still married to their trifling earthly joys
Shall meet us all on that long and distant shore
There to find our bodies entwined in death forever

20 Eyes
02:50
|
|||
20 Eyes in my head
20 Eyes in my head
20 Eyes in my head
They're all the same, they're all the same
20 Eyes in my head
20 Eyes in my head
They're all the same, they're all the same
When you're seeing 20 things at a time
You just can't slow things down
When you're seeing 20 things in your mind
Just can't slow things down
Then all those eyes
They're just crowding up your human face
Then all those eyes
Take an overload
20 Eyes in my head
20 Eyes in my head
20 Eyes in my head
They're all the same, they're all the same
